Beautification: Interact Club

(SAN BERNARDINO – 40th Street) – San Gorgonio’s Interact Club took part in the San Bernardino Beautification Series April 14 on West 40 Street.

Students from the club participated in several activities which included picking up trash, removing weeds, cleaning up the nearby Stater Bros. parking lot and more.

“I think it’s really important that more people get involved in [this] community because we live here and we want people when they visit our city to [know that] we care about [it],” said Helen Luu, the club’s president.

In the past, the Interact Club has taken part in many community service events across the city but this occasion marks its first time participating in the San Bernardino Beautification Series.

Through this event and others, Luu’s group is trying to send a message.

“I think it’s important for San Bernardino to have kid leadership and to make sure that students are heard and seen out [here]. It’s really important that [people] see that we’re kids and we’re taking initiative on our own,” she explained.

She also acknowledged how her group tries to inspire others.

“We want to take part. We’re active and not just a bunch of people sitting around, complaining. We’re trying to encourage other people to do something like this. We just want to engage people in our community and make them feel like San Bernardino can be united,” she said.
