The sold-out crowd was delighted to see all of the most memorable scenes like the living room scene and the sugar plum fairies in this rendition unfold before them.

“There’s a lot of excitement here today,” said Kate Reed. ”You can feel it in the air.”

What audiences might be unaware of is that this dance group is composed of local members of the community and throughout the greater region.

Many of the dancers and performers and crew have come back year after year.

“They just love to come back and perform in our Nutcracker and they feel a family tie,” said Diane Amendt, the creative director.

Amendt has been involved with The Nutcracker herself since it began here, 36 years ago.

“We have a lot of talent in our community,”  said Reed, who has made it a family tradition to bring her granddaughters every year. “It’s really good to support them, and to come out with your kids and grandkids.”
