Fans came from near and far; some coming from Victorville to see Chesnutt’s performance on Nov. 5.

What was clear is that he had some very loyal fans out in the audience that night. He even pointed out some of the “regulars” that have frequently travelled to see him over the years.

For Chesnutt, acoustic sets allow him the opportunity to interact with his fans.

“I can take requests from the audience and I like that,” said Chesnutt. “There’s a time when I’ll ask for requests and somebody will ask for something we haven’t played in a long time and even if we don’t know it, a lot of times we’ll give it a shot.”

Chesnutt encouraged the community to patronize their local entertainment venues.

He said playing at the Sturges Center took him back to his roots and playing at smaller, more intimate venues because that’s how he, himself, got started in the music business.

“Without local venues, there’s no hope for up and coming musicians,” Chesnutt cautioned.
